Mudbloods & "Murmurs", what is the meaning of a murmur?

We all know what a Mudblood is. Like Hermione, as Draco seldom forgets to remind us. So that makes Draco Malfoy and all the pure-blooded wizards murmurs? If so why wouldn't Harry & his gang recoil against Draco's gang with the insult: "murmur"?

  1. It's been a while since I read CoS, but if memory serves me right this is the same chapter when Harry starts hearing the voices in the walls. So the murmurs would refer to the murmurs he's hearing.

  2. The murmurs are what Harry hears coming through the walls from the basilisk(?). Only Harry can hear them as he speaks parseltongue. It is not a reference to pure bloods.

  3. Murmurs are "moans"

    Like moaning, ahhhhhh ahhhhhh

A verbal noise you would make as is ur in pain... and it usually sounds very low pitched.
