Muhamad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab ready for ENOC Team International Snooker Championship 2011
Pakistani cueists, Muhammad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab, are leaving for Dubai from Karachi on Thursday, June 23 to take part in ENOC Team International Snooker Championship 2011. The pair will represent
Pakistan in the 12-nation snooker championship in Dubai starting on Friday, June 24. The duo has also been selected to participate in the 2011 Snooker World Cup at World Trade Centre in Bangkok.
Sajjad and Aftab were selected by the Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA) after their individual performance in national and international circuit. However, the two-member squad will
participate in the tournament without a coach, as PBSA told the media that they had no financial assistance to hire a snooker coach for the players.
While speaking to the local press, the president of PBSA Alamgir Anwar Shaikh said about the team’s preparation of the event, “Both the boys (Sajjad and Shahid) are in good shape and high spirits,
having worked hard in the 20-day conditioning and training camp that we organised for them in Islamabad.”
He added, “The draws of the ENOC Championship, being organised the United Arab Emirates Billiards & Snooker Association (UAEBSA), have not been communicated yet and we understand that they might be
taken out just before the start of the five-day event on Friday.”
The team will return home on Wednesday, June 29 after the event ends and will start their practice sessions in Karachi for the upcoming Snooker World Cup at World Trade Centre in Bangkok. Pakistan
has been drawn against Wales, Egypt, Germany and Ireland. The Pakistani cuemen will face a difficult challenge in their matches against the Welsh team, which comprises of Mark Williams and Matthew Stevens.
Alamgir told the reporters about the team’s participation in the world cup, “The five-day championship is also being considered as a warm-up competition for the forthcoming mega 2011 Snooker World
Cup Team Event to be staged in Thailand next month.”
The total prize money of ENOC Team International Snooker Championship 2011 is $11,000 and PBSA hopes that the players, Muhammad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab, will perform well in the Dubai event as well
as in the upcoming 2011 Snooker World Cup.
