Muhammad Afrizal dies of brain haemorrhage after four days of treatment – Boxing News
Muhammad Afrizal, Indonesian boxer, died today after being treated for four days at the University of Indonesia Hospital in Cawang. Muhammad Afrizal was 30 and was due to get married this month. He died this morning in Jakarta.
Muhammad Afrizal was admitted to the UKI hospital right after his fight against Ivan Marbun, during which the Indonesian suffered severe brain haemorrhage. The bout was for the Indonesian Boxing Committee (KTI) featherweight title and was aired by Indosiar
(private Indonesian channel) on Saturday night.
On the sad occasion, Azhar Latif, the pugilist’s manager, said, “I deeply felt the loss since he planned to marry on April 15.”
Afrizal’s death was confirmed by Tommy Halauwet, a former KTI doctor who is currently working at the UKI Hospital. He said, “The medical team from the UKI Hospital had tried to treat him, but his injury was really severe and we couldn't manage to save his
life.”
He further said, “The medical team from the UKI Hospital had tried to treat him, but his injury was really severe and we couldn't manage to save his life.”
Afrizal’s manager further said that the pugilist’s marriage was approaching by mid of April and that his demise has shocked his family and friends equally. Afrizal’s manager also added that the boxer was a former Pan-Asian Boxing Association champion.
Afrizal’s body will be transferred to Medan, North Sumatra, for his funeral and burial.
Afrizal’s demise cannot be blamed on the referee since it was his corner’s duty to ensure his well-being. If his corner people had asked to the referee to stop the bout considering his condition, Afrizal would have survived this mishap. However, the corner
people were unable to analyse his physical condition properly and allowed him to fight. After the fight, the pugilist was sent to the hospital for treatment where his condition worsened with time. Doctors initially said that they are trying their level best
to save his life, however since the damage was too much, the pugilist could not make it out of the death trap and finally gave up adding another name to the list of boxers who have due to ring assault.
