Muhammad Ali attends Angelo Dundee’s funeral – Boxing news
Angelo Dundee, trainer of legendary Muhammad Ali, passed away last month. Muhammad Ali, the Greatest boxer to ever live and Sportsman of the Millennium, was present at his mentor’s funeral yesterday at the Countryside Christian Center.
Angelo Dundee, Hall of Famer, died at the age of 90 after mentoring and motivating nearly all the legendary boxers that have left their legacies such as Ali, Foreman and others. His death came as a shock to the boxing universe since he was considered as
the master motivator. Ali was present at his funeral service to show his love towards his mentor.
Ali was seen entering the Countryside Christian Center through an entrance which was not revealed to the public, to keep the former champion away from public attention since he himself is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Ali was seated in the front row
right in front of the casket. The stage was lined with flowers, a painting, and a couple of pictures and a pair of red boxing gloves to pay tribute to the legendary trainer.
Since Ali was unable to speak, his wife spoke on his behalf saying, “He used to call us all the time and say it doesn't cost nothing to be nice. ... It was like his mantra. Whenever we saw Angelo there was a smile of his face. He was always a happy guy.
When you think about the beauty of Angelo, when you think about the personalities that he had to coach and train, I actually have to start with Muhammad.”
Mohammad Ali seemed highly depressed on the passing of Dundee, who was supposedly not keeping well after the death of his wife at 70. His son revealed news of Dundee’s demise last week. He passed away a natural death due to old age without any major illness.
Bob Arum, one of the most renowned promoters today, spoke on his funeral as well saying, “He was one of the nicest people I ever met.”
The news of Dundee’s demise was shocking for everyone including boxing fans, former boxers and the ones who are currently in the industry. His funeral service was a mega one, which saw most of the shining stars of the industry there.
