Muhammad Amir deserves one chance
The match fixing scandal against the three Pakistani players is now gaining coverage from a different dimension. The final inquiry report is yet to come but media speculations are rife about different possibilities. The new dimension to the alleged controversy appeared after the ICC Chief Executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 expressed his desire to take lenient action against Muhammad Amir keeping in view his young age. The ICC chef executive said that Muhammad Amir is one of the youngest players and age factor must be taken into account.
The ICC chief executive said that personally he will be in favour of taking lenient action against Muhammad Amir but the final decision will be made by the independent tribunal. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafqat-Rana-c89305 does not consider age factor a criteria for reducing punishment. Shafqat Rana opined that age has nothing to do with law. If he is proven guilty, law must be applied accordingly irrespective of age or maturity level.
There is no doubt that the inclusion of Muhammad Amir’s name in the alleged scam came as a huge shock to most of the cricket lovers. The physical appearance and the personality do not match his role in the scam. However he may have been lured by more experienced players. Company does have an influence and it is possible that he was caught in his first ever incursion at the crime surface.
Amir is an excellent bowler and his inclusion in the team has led Pakistan to be amongst one of the best bowling attacks in the world. However, why on earth did he become an accomplice in the alleged scam remains beyond comprehension. Anything could be expected from other alleged players. Kamran Akmal has had a prominent role in creating rifts within the team. He even displayed his monopoly at various critical moments. The past record of Muhammad Asif reveals a complete picture about his personality. He was fairly exposed by Pakistani actress Veena Malik after their friendship took a negative turn. Muhammad Asif was unable to take the responsibilities of a celebrity profile as he was caught red handed at Dubai airport with prohibited Narcotics in his wallet.
Salman Butt, however had a clear past record. He was educated, well groomed and responsible. His inclusion in the recent scam was also a shock for Pakistani fans. It is really difficult to imagine the power and charm of money but character also needs to have strength. The strength of character appeared to be weak enough in case of the alleged players.
Muhammad Amir, aged 18 had a very prosperous career ahead of him in international cricket. He is the youngest of the three alleged players involved in spot fixing. English all rounder, Stuart Broad rejected consideration of age factor in dealing with the match fixing scam. According to Stuart, there should not be any leniency with Muhammad Amir if he is found guilty. He approved stern action against all the players irrespective of their age. Stuart broad criticized the alleged players on their irresponsible behaviour despite adequate information by the ICC on cricket corruption.
Crime in any form must be dealt with strict punishment. Punishment on a proved crime acts as a deterrence for potential criminals. Cricket is nowadays infested with corruption. The charm of money has extracted the beauty of the game. A game, which was considered to be of aristocrats and nobles, is nowadays facing criminal prosecutions. The glory of the sport requires that a chance must be given to the youngest player; Muhammad Amir, who gained immense prominence with his bowling dexterity, should be subjected to lenient approach considering his age.
It is yet premature to support a mercy plea for a crime which has not been proved. However, an emerging player like Muhammad Asif deserves one chance. A stern action against one of the youngest cricket sensations will deprive the cricket world from a great bowler.
