Muhammad Asif ousts Muhammad Majid in 2012 NBP Ranking Snooker semi-final
After putting up an excellent snooker display at the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Creek Club Billiards Hall, the current Pakistan National Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif was able to defeat the rookie Muhammad Majid by the score line of 6-4 in the semi-final
clash of the 2012 National Bank Pakistan (NBP) Ranking Snooker tournament.
Both potters showed great determination in the first two sessions and went neck-to-neck. The National Champion was not expecting such a great performance from the young Majid and at one point he tumbled down against him. However, the National Champion bounced
back in the third session of the match and cruised into a cracking victory by the score line of 6-4.
The match was tremendous from the very beginning of the first frame as the champ cruised into the first frame victory with a classy score line of 113-8 to move with one frame lead at 1-0. The second frame of the match was a tussling battle but Asif was able
to win the frame by 55-47 to extend his lead to 2-0.
Majid was under immense pressure but he did not lose his focus and sprang back into the game with victories in the next two frames. He hit a tremendous break to win the third frame by the score line of 40-80 followed by another frame win by 60-62 to pull
level at 2-2. Emergence of a mere rookie in such a pressure situation was indeed an alert for Asif as he was expected to prevail in the game.
Asif felt the pressure but he stayed focused and continued his strong game with a classy snooker display in the fifth frame to win it by 91-20 and move one frame up in the standings. Nevertheless, the sixth frame was totally dominated by the youngster as
he did not let the veteran come to the table and won the game by the score line of 0-95 to level it again at 3-3.
Asif made some outstanding moves in the next frame and was able to win it by 81-39 followed by another impressive frame win by the score line of 70-61. Majid’s frame win by 67-79 was not enough for him to win the match as Asif breezed into a superb frame
win by 69-56 to claim the semi-final game by the score line of 6-4.
