Muhammad Hafiz Hashim impressed by Indonesians fight in Axiata Cup semi-final – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim was impressed with the way Indonesian shuttlers fought and won the semi-final clash against Malaysian players in the Axiata Cup 2012 on Sunday, April 1 in Kuala Lumpur.
Hafiz, who is currently placed at number 32 in the world, appreciated the team-spirit and unity shown by Indonesian shuttlers and their staff members including coaches and team manager.
The experienced Hafiz was not happy with the lack of team spirit that Malaysians showed in their semi-final contest against Indonesian opponents.
The Indonesians delivered sensational performance in the semi-final and crushed the Malaysians, who were in front of their home crowd, with a stunning 3-0 margin on the board.
Malaysian’s were completely helpless against the spirited play of their opponents and crashed out from the tournament in an embarrassing manner.
While talking about the impressive team spirit of Indonesian players, Hafiz said that they were fully prepared and put up superb show while remaining united.
He said, “They came prepared. Even their professional player Taufik Hidayat played his heart out and threw his support behind the team. Their whole coaching team and also manager were there. We did not even have a team manager.”
Hafiz will be among the experienced players in Malaysian squad for Thomas Cup Finals, which is scheduled to take place in the upcoming month in China.
Hafiz’s next assignments before Thomas Cup will be India Open Super Series 2012 and Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2012.
In Thomas Cup he will play third Men’s Singles contest as he is Malaysia’s third best player as he has been placed behind Lee Chong Wei and Daren Liew.
He said, “I have skipped the Australian Open this week. I will only compete in the India Open (April 24-29) and Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold (May 1-6). My ranking may drop even further. I will be playing as the third singles and this position will be good for me and Malaysian team.”
He wants all Malaysian shuttlers to play like a team and show unity while competing in Thomas Cup finals, the biggest team-event tournament in badminton world, where all top nations of the world will participate to win glory.
