Muhammad Hafiz Hashim overpowers Boonsak Ponsana in Axiata Cup 2012 – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim finds his rhythm at the right time as he defeated Thailand’s higher ranked shuttler Boonsak Ponsana in a round match of Axiata Cup 2012 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, March 26.
The World Number 32 Hafiz, who has been working hard to find a winning form, showed his impressive skills and outplayed Ponsana, who is currently placed at number 26 in Men’s Singles world rankings.
Hafiz, who is representing Malaysian Tigers in Axiata Cup, displayed his hard-to-learn skills and overpowered his Thai opponent in straight games without taking much time in the court.
After the match, Hafiz said that he found his rhythm and managed to get into dominating position at the right time in the contest.
He also mentioned that the upcoming match against Indonesia Rajawali will be very important as it will help his team to face a comparatively easy team in the semi-final.
He said, "I had a slow start but managed to find my rhythm midway through the first game. I feel a little tired after the first two matches but may have to play again tomorrow (today) as a win against Indonesia Rajawali is important."
While talking about his possible clash against Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the upcoming battle, Hafiz said that he has already defeated the Indonesian in their previous meeting.
He said, "I have beaten Tommy Sugiarto in our only meeting but the team line-up is still not confirmed yet but I have to be prepared."
In his yesterday’s match against Ponsana, Hafiz showed his brilliance by playing to his maximum potential and remained in wonderful control of rallies.
However, Ponsana also played well in the first game and remained close to his Malaysian opponent throughout the set.
The score was tight until the concluding phase of opening set when Hafiz geared up his speed and managed to bag the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
In the second game, both shuttlers played fast badminton and remained close until the break.
Nevertheless, Hafiz controlled and dictated the pace in the concluding half and managed to win the second set with an impressive margin of 21-16.
The Malaysian won this Men’s Singles fight with a 21-19 and 21-16 score on the board.
Malaysian Tigers emerged as the winner of this team-event contest against Thailand with an impressive margin of 3-0.
