Muhammad Hafiz Hashim set to meet Scott Evans in the second round of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011
Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim and Ireland’s Scott Evans are set to fight against each other in the second round of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011. Both players won their first round matches with relative ease on Wednesday, March 16.
The ninth seed Hafiz Hashim defeated Pavel Florian of Czech Republic in straight sets of 25 minutes, whereas the Scott got rid of Dieter Domke of Germany in a three-set-battle that took 41 minutes of hard labour from both players. Both winners will fight
against each other in the second round of the tournament.
Hafiz Hashim started the match with his usual calm style and earned a comfortable lead of 11-5 in the first half of the set. Florian was playing aggressively but his stroke selection faltered as the Malaysian returned his powerful smashes quite easily. Hafiz
Hashim won the opening set by a stunning difference of 21-10, in just 11 minutes.
In the second set, Florian matched the speed of the opponent and remained close till 9-11. After the one-minute-break, the Malaysian stretched the lead by controlling the rallies and reached 17-11. He maintained the lead and won the second set with a decent
margin of 21-16 by spending only 15 minutes in the court. The final score of this 25-minute match was 21-10 and 21-15.
In another men’s singles match, Scott Evans defeated the German in a tight three-set match which took 41 minutes. Dieter delivered a superb performance by playing a well planned and positive game that earned him the first set by a 21-15 margin, in just 13
minutes.
In the second set, the Irish kept the pace of the bird high from the start of the game and built a decent lead of 11-8. After the interval, Evans remained in the driving seat in the entire set and finished it up by a 21-17 margin, in 16 minutes.
The third and final set of this exhilarating match proved the brilliance of the Irishman, who was playing at his best. In the opening half of the third set, Scott quickly built a 6-point lead at 11-5, and maintained the gap till the ending points. He consumed
only 12 minutes to grab the final set with an impressive margin of 21-11. The ending score of this first round match was 15-21, 21-17 and 21-11.
