Muhammad Leghari becomes the new Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament in Lahore
The 27th Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament ended with its last round at the Lahore Gymkhana Club, Pakistan on Sunday and awarded Muhammad Leghari with the leading position in net.
The championship was a collection of cut-throat rivalry and exhilarating suspense till the last hole of the tournament and had the winner undecided till the last hole of the three day extravaganza. The championship ended on Sunday after a 54 hole match and
ended with its third round in the chilly wintry weather of the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
According to statistics, Leghari from the Royal Palm Club, carded an impressive net of 213 after the last round of the event and slowly climbed to the top of the leader board. The golfer carded a 71 at the last round of the match and scored the lowest in
the second round with a 68. Leghari scored the highest in the first round of the tournament with a 74 after which the greens decided to go easy on him to achieve the front.
Having the exact same score, Waleed Zubair stood as the overnight leader at the Gymkhana GC and attacked his compatriot for an exhilarating game throughout the final 18 holes.
The win however decided to favour Leghari as he carded a much better score at the last round of the Governor’s Cup with a 71. For Zubair, it had been disappointment while the winner celebrated the victory with cheers and thus had to make do with the runner
up position in net.
At third place, Ali Anwar finished with a 216 net score and performed brilliantly in the first round of the event. With a 69 in Round 1, the score card experienced much consistency in the last two rounds and recorded a 74 as the highest and a decent 73 in
the ending flagsticks.
From Gross standings, Waseem Rana reached the apex who hailed from the Defence Club. The golfer from Karachi won the previously stated cluster and aggregated a 217 in his score. Rana collected the lowest score in the initial round with a 68 and then the
highest from the third round play. The leader carded a 74 in the second round of the tournament and defended his throne efficiently against constant attacks by Danyaal Jahangir.
Jahangir experienced a one stroke deficit from the leading position and carded a 218 in contention to his compatriot. At third place, Safdar Khan from Gujranwala Club collected a score of 222 to bring an end to the three day brawl of the Governor’s Cup Golf
Tournament 2010.
