Muhammad Rizky, Wulan Sari make way into second stage of qualifying round – Thailand Open Update
Mixed Doubles partners Delynugraha Muhammad Rizky and Wulan Sari Sri defeated Wee Gleen Tan-Mei Kuan Chow and marched into second stage of qualifying round in the SCG Thailand Open on June 5, 2012.
Both pairs gave each other a tough time for 43 minutes before putting final figures of 18-21, 21-19 and 19-21.
The Indonesian pair had to experience diverse scenarios as they took an early advantage, went down in the middle and ultimately rose from the dust in final moments.
Meanwhile, the opposing team also registered their class in second set and walked tall despite losing the crucial match.
Muhammad Rizky and Wulan Sari will now face Korean duo Dae Eun Kim-A Ra Ko to reserve their spot in main draw of tournament.
Earlier in their opening match, they were subjected to a tough trial straight away in first set. They had to compete against indomitable opponents who matched their skills in all areas of game.
Initially, they were leading in 7-4 score but their challengers managed to end first half 10-11.
In later part of the game, the twosome of Wee Gleen and Kuan Chow enjoyed the upper hand until 17-15 but the partnership of Rizky and Wulan Sari came back on track with four continuous points and wrapped the show with 21-18.
The following game was also full of sensation as the Malaysians stormed back by clinching second match point.
They opened the marathon by reaching at seven points in no time and then magnified the impact with 11-6 total before the announcement of break.
However, third quarter of the set saw them losing grip over five continuous rallies as the opposing team equalled score at 13-13.
Mixed Doubles expert Wee Gleen and Kuan Chow reinstated their dominance by entering notable margin of 21-19 on the board.
They use their self confidence, which they earned after second set win in the decider and established a respectable lead with 9-3.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian pair also continued their progress and counterbalanced the situation with some fruitful rallies.
Though, the Malaysians were in commanding position in final stage of the set but they committed fatal mistakes which allowed Muhammad Rizky and Wulan Sari to seal the victory with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19.
