Muhammed Lawal suspended for nine months with Strikeforce contract rescinded by Dana White - UFC News
Muhammed Lawal, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, is facing one of the toughest time of his career since in a recent order issued by Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), King Mo will undergo a nine-month suspension, in addition, UFC
President Dana White has also rescinded his employment contract.
According to recent tidings, Lawal was scheduled to appear in front of NSAC hearing to clarify his stance on using prohibited substances. The hearing did not go well as Lawal afterwards in his tweets exhibited serious rage at one of the commission members.
Lawal, 31, was unable to clear the post-bout mandatory drug test and the diagnosis revealed the presence of an anabolic steroid ‘drostanolone’, a substance specifically banned by the regulatory commission.
The former light heavyweight champion went one-on-one with Lorenz Larkin in Strikeforce’s pay-per-view ‘Rockhold vs Jardine’. Lawal emerged victorious after collecting a second round knockout win.
Everything was in order when Lawal’s post-bout urine sample revealed the presence of a prohibited substance. Mo clarified his stance by informing that he did took a non-prescribed medication by the name ‘S Mass Lean Gainer’ in order to recuperate from a
knee injury.
Initially Lawal was suspected to receive a one-year suspension but his recent meeting with the regulator worked out a bit and he was granted a nine-month suspension. Things went out of hand when Pat Lundvall, the first ever female to ever lead the commission,
asked Lawal that whether he knows how to read and speak English or not.
Lawal took it as an insult because of his tough past experience. The misunderstanding later on really cost Mo his job since according to some sources, UFC President Dana White basically got raged at the tweet posted by Lawal on his Twitter account relating
to Pat.
Muhammed, who has been in total 10 bouts and came out victorious in eight, later on, explained his tweet and said, “It’s funny how people are tryna say that I’m callin the commission racist. No!! They aren’t. But there was one person on the panel that was
out of line with the question she asked me. I found it insulting, prejudice, and a lil racist. I say racist from my past experiences, I have been asked that in the past as an insult.”
According to the detailed order, Lawal has been suspended for nine months with the suspension active from the day of the bout. Moreover, the 205-pounder will have to forfeit not only the win bonus ($15,000) but also 30 percent of the $80,000 purse money
(i.e. $24,000).
Moreover, King Mo’s knockout win over Lorenz has also been converted to a no contest decision. Lawal, after the commission’s decision said, “Whatever punishment you put in front of me. I'm a man and will take it like a man.”
Dana White who has a real stiff stance over the drug usage, after the hearing and Mo’s uttering of inappropriate remarks, has officially cancelled the former champion’s contract which is definitely a devastating shock for the already scarce Strikeforce’s
light heavyweight division.
