Muhammed Rehman leads after first round of Chief of Naval Staff Golf Championship – Golf news
Local seed Muhammed Rehman managed a score of 1-under par in the first round of the Chief of Naval Staff Golf Championship on the par-72 Royal Palm Golf and Country Club to surge into lead.
The tournament sponsored by Pakistan Navy started on Friday in Lahore, Pakistan and will end on Sunday.
Rehman teed off from the front-nine and reeled two birdies in the 18-hole session. He drove the tee shot to the centre of the fairway, which left him with an easy approach shot towards the green. The player managed to hit the Green in Regulation, but could
not relish success in carding a birdie putt.
He walked towards the par-3 second hole and smashed a shot straight into the heart of the green, but the ball rolled into the bunker on the left, which eventually left him with the first bogey of the day.
Aware of his prowess on short pars, Rehman decided to settle the score with a par-3 on the fourth hole. He aimed his tee shot towards the right side of the fairway and reached the green-in-one shot safely. The ball started moving for a bit, giving Rehman
a scare but luckily for him, it stopped without causing much problems.
Taking advantage of the situation, Rehman rolled a birdie putt eight feet from the cup and savoured success in carding the first birdie of the day.
On his way to the back-nine, Rehman did not drop a single shot. Instead, he picked a birdie on the par-4 16th after he hit a tee shot that plunged across the lake, which was strategically located in the centre and landed in the middle of the fairway.
Member of the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club took advantage of his familiarity with the course and hammered a beautiful iron shot across yet another lake on the right, and hit the Green in Regulation. With that, he wrapped the day in the lead.
Rehman was extremely pleased with his game. He said, “I am so pleased with my game of the first day and I am going to make a match of it over the next two days.”
Two strokes behind the leader was Waseem Rana of DHA Golf Club, Karachi. The player carded a score of one-over par after picking two birdies against one double bogey.
One stroke behind him was Sufian Dhodak with a score of 2-over par, followed by a group of four amateurs including Anser Mehmood, Wazir Ali, Sardar Murad and Asad Amin Sheikh.
