Mukhadram set to be ridden by Paul Hanagan in York Stakes – Horseracing news
Mukhadram is all set to represent his trainer William Haggas in the Sky Bet York Stakes under jockey Paul Hanagan.
The season rider had a few options available and he could have chosen any other stallion in a different event. However, he decided that the best thing was to stick with the talented runner, who has mostly been good in major competitions.
Hanagan's agent Richard Hale said: “Paul had the choice and he wants to stick with Mukhadram. The King George is one of the biggest races but Mukhadram has not been beaten far in two of the year's most important races and this could be his trial for the
Juddmonte International.”
Earlier, there was confusion over where Mukhadram would go, as he too had some options available. His camp had been looking at all of the possibilities, but decided to go to the York Stakes with him.
The four-year-old colt has got a pretty decent record, but he needs to win races with more consistency. His strike rate is below 50 at the moment, which is not ideal for a horse like him. He has the ability to deliver quality performances and has made his
team proud on several occasions in the past.
This year has turned out to be a pretty good one for the talented runner, who started off with a victory at Sandown. He was quite confident after that success and was sent into a tough contest at the Royal Ascot. Since there were some other quality stallions
attracted towards the mega event, he was not given the best odds for victory. However, he proved to be quite strong and finished as a runner up, which was pleasing for his fans and the team.
Following that run, Mukhadram was sent into another tough race, where he had been given slightly better odds and was seen as a potential threat to the race favourite. However, he was unable to make a strong impression back then and had to settle for the
third place overall.
Haggas’ trainee has won three races in his career and will be looking to add more victories to his tally before this season ends.
