Mukhadram upsets Main Sequence in Cantor Fitzgerald Brigadier Gerard Stakes – Horseracing News
Mukhadram won a thrilling battle against Main Sequence in the Cantor Fitzgerald Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) at the Sandown race track. The latter of the two stallions was rated as the favourite to succeed but failed to meet
the expectations of the bookies and the punters.
Spokesman of the winning owner Richard Hills said after the race, “He's (Mukhadram) had a few problems but he went to Great Leighs last week for some work and pleased William. We don’t keep many four year olds in training but we
thought he could improve and tonight has justified that.”
Hills went onto say, “He knocked on the door quite a bit last year and ran some good races but I think as a four-year-old he will improve immensely. He’s in a few races at Ascot but we'll let the boss decide.”
This was the third victory for Mukhadram, who has taken part in a total of six events until now. He was priced 3 to 1 by the bookies and attracted quite a few bets from the punters too.
However, the four-year-old colt made a mistake by pushing extremely hard in the opening phases of the race. As a result, he ran out of gas towards the final few yards, allowing other challengers to close the gap on him. Luckily,
the young runner held on at the end and finished on top by half a length.
This was the first outing for Mukhadram in the current season and the result would have boosted his confidence to a great deal. He will now be looking to deliver similar results in the upcoming events too.
On the other hand, Main Sequence needs to work hard on his form and fitness, as he has twice disappointed his owners this season. Despite getting the best odds in both his races, he has failed to succeed. Due to this, his strike
rate has been affected badly which is not a good sign at all.
Although the American gelding has only dropped out of the top-three on a couple of times in his career, his trainer David Lanigan would want him to lift his game in order to compete in some important competitions this year.
