It is said that the majority of Dominicans are of mixed European and

African descent by 73 percent believe it or not.11 percent are black, but through out my whole life growing up with Dominicans I have never met any Dominicans who were truly white, despite the fact that many mixed race Dominicans claim that they were white. All of this just might seem like a lie or a fake.I have met many Cubans that were white, and many Puerto Ricans that were white, but never any Dominicans that were white, and I am not talking about the color,I'm talking the color,I'm talking about the race itself. The reason why I am asking, is because I am a person that studies cultures and ethnicities, because my career is to become an anthropologist, and books don't always give me information about the ethnicity in the Dominican Republic. It is difficult to explain race in the Dominican Republic to average, primitive minded Dominican,so I would expect educated, sophisticated, and wise Dominicans to answer this question.

  1. Contrary to the US, in Latin American cultures where slavery existed whites would often marry or simply "mate" with blacks. This centuries old cross-breeding generated a lot of mixed up races that are somewhat confusing determining weather they are black, white or mulattoes, unless you run further DNA testings. I my case for example, my great grandmother in my mother's side had darker skin but I am plain white (and my mother is blond with green eyes). Plus, in those cultures being "darker" is considered to be a sign of social and educational inferiority so people tend to consider themselves whites even when they are clearly not.

  2. I personally corresponded with a VERY white Dominican lady once.  As far as I know, most of the Dominican baseball players are either totally white or with a slight admixture of Black (about 50-50).  To prove your point you must give real statistics instead of feelings. (I need to give nothing as I am not making any certain claims).

  3. Maybe as you progress in your study of Anthropology, you'll learn there is no such thing as "race." Genetic differences between individuals of the same race are much more pronounced than gen. differences between "races."  So while your little project would be an interesting pursuit in the 1950's, in light of modern Anthropology research its about as useless as eugenics was. Find another question to ponder, because you'll never get funding for research of this topic, unless it's from the KKK.
