Question:

Mulberry wood safe for snakes?

I want to add a branch to my ball python's enclosure to give him something to climb around on. (I'm too cheap to buy the $15 pieces of junk wood sold in pet stores.) I've got a clean mulberry branch i've cut down to the size I need, and plan to bake it a while to kill off anything that might be harmful.

I could only find online that mulberry is apparently safe for chameleons, so I assume it is for the snake but I'd like to hear from someone who knew for sure.

  1. http://www.anapsid.org/resources/edible....  -- plants that are edible or ok for reptiles i would assume the wood is ok because mulberry leaves are on edible list of leaves

http://www.anapsid.org/resources/plants....  -- this has a lot of good info on good and bad plants for reptiles.

what the other person said...bake it at 275 F for about 2 or 3 hours to kill the cooties in the wood.

  2. go for it, but if it will fit in your oven you should bake it for a few minutes to kill any possible parasites.
