Mullins hopes to claim the Galway Plate Handicap Chase with Blackstairmountain, Raptor or Blazing Tempo
Blackstairmountain holds an entry in the www.Thetote.com Galway Plate Handicap Chase at Galway and, his popularity is already rising in the market. Hosted at Galway on 1st August, 2012, the race will cover a distance of 2 miles
and 6 furlongs on a surface that has been labelled soft.
Trainer Willie Mullins is hoping that, Blackstairmountain can claim this victory. Last year, he won this race with Blazing Tempo, who will also be racing to defend her title.
Mullins has also decided to enter Raptor. These three runners give Mullins a good chance of claiming this prestigious race, yet again this year.
Owned by Mrs. S. Ricci, Blackstairmountain has been in real good form, with a convincing victory and solid second place finish in her last two starts.
On 27th April, 2012, he competed in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown. Run over a distance of two miles, he missed the victory by 1 ½ lengths to the Thomas Cooper trained, Lucky William.
However, the seven-year-old demonstrated his true potential in the Meath Farm Machinery (Q.R.) Race at Bellewstown on 6th July, 2012, when he romped to a 10-length victory over Norman Cassidy’s charge, Asiya.
Blazing Tempo, daughter of Accordion, foaled by Supreme Leader mare Leading Duke, was in form at the end of last season.
In her seasonal debut, she took advantage of the field when she bagged the money in the Grade 2 Normans Grove Chase at Fairyhouse in January, 2012, where she finished ahead of Noble Prince, over 2 miles and 1 furlong.
The eight-year-old also ran in the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase (Registered As The Festival Trophy Steeple Chase) in the Cheltenham Festival in March, 2012, but was pulled up.
Now, she is returning to the track to defend what she claimed in July, 2011, when she defeated the John Kiely trained, Wise Old Owl.
Raptor, the seven-year-old grey gelding is also at the top of his game. With two victories under his belt, he is ready to complete his hat-trick.
With jockey Ruby Walsh aboard, he raced as a favourite, and landed the Audrey McGrath Memorial Chase at Wexford and defeated, Great Oak, by 1 ¾ lengths over 2 miles and 1 furlong.
