  1. In the US it doesn't matter. We don't have instrument single or instrument multi ratings. We do have two different commercial licenses. They are commercial single, and commercial multi. Once you have one the add on for the other is pretty simple. The important thing with the two ratings is what it allows you to do. If you have a commercial multi, then you can only act as a commercial pilot (be paid to fly, 135 regs and other stuff are also involved but thats another topic) in a multi engine aircraft, and vice versa for a single engine.

As far as the instrument rating, you only have to get it once. you won't have to get an instrument add on to a multi engine. I don't know if your australian ratings will transfer over or how all that will happen, but if you know what you're doing then you should have no problems getting a US or Canadian license.

It is a little confusing at first, but its really pretty simple.

I can't suggest a best place to go. I will say you should avoid any major flight schools. Places like ATP, Pan-Am, Westwind, Air safety, are not good places to go. They are in the business of making money, not training pilots. Find a place you want to live, then go to beapilot.com and they have a list of just about every flight school out there. Find one that has good prices, then try to find people in the area and see if you can get any information on the place. You really are better off at small clubs.

  2. The best way to what?

Your question clearly states that you already have a multi-engine instrument rating.

Unless of course unlike the U.S. you have to retake the instrument and or the commercial checkride in a multi.
