you can use the solution as an eye drop so long as it is not a peroxide based solution.

Just stay away from Visene! Instead of curing the problem it just cosmetically masks it.

It can be used, but the moisturizing effect may not last as long as those rewetting drops made specially for dry contacts. And there are more chemicals contain in multi- purpose solution which are meant for cleaning purposes and are not intent to rewet the contacts effectively. The extra chemicals may cause eye complications like cornea wear off in the future if used excessively due to the slight acidic nature of boric acid used in most multi- purpose solution.

The real refreshing drops are made to make a longer lasting film on your cornea to provide more relief.
