  2. There is no code, it's hard-wired into the DVD player.

    The only way you'll be able to play movies from a different region than your own is to have a region-free DVD player; which you might have to import from some place like Japan.

    j-list.com sells a couple of brands of reasonably priced region-free DVD players, give that shot.
