Multi-tasking while eating out?

If you are in a restaurant with family (even though you should be enjoying time spent with them...) You sit there for an hour or so longer than planned...or you were roped in last minute and you had something to do..

What can you do besides sitting around talking and eating? (Besides 'managing' your cell phone and walking around to get some exercise in...What are some hand-held things you could do or plan while sitting there??) If this doesn't make sense - think about when you sit in a car for hours (or 30mins) what can you do besides sitting there?

  1. something interesting we usually do is name that food. which is naming what type of food is coming out of the kitchen when waiters or runners are running them.

guessing games are usually fun because no one know for sure

  2. Always bring a BOOK with you.

(I learned that from my H.S. English teacher

(who happened also to be my mother's H.S. English teacher).

He always carried a novel in the pockets of his rumpled, tweed jacket.  "You never know when you'll have to wait" (for a bus, etc.)

I always bring paper and pencil, too.

With family, there are lots of games you can play with paper and pencil.  (Ask restaurant for it, if you forget.)
