Question:

Multiple Ethernet Cables?

Does hooking multiple ethernet cables together in a chain slow the connection down? I've heard that the longer one is, the slower the internet you get through it is.

(e.g. Three 25ft. cables to make 150ft.)

  1. I don't think it will slow the connection down.  It kind of depends on how good your connectors between the cables are.  I do know that a single Cat5/Cat6 cable should never be longer them 100 Meters (328 feet).

  2. yes

  3. Well... you can go as far as about 250-300 feet with ALMOST no problems.  That much UTP is a bit much and it will increase interference. But technically these cabels transfer DATA and it travels at lightspeed so you should be ok.

But you will experience problems ith anything longer than 300 feet. It doesn;t matter that its cable - there will be too much signal degradation.

  4. Well, first of all three 25 foot cables would only be 75'.

Any time you couple cables together you lose signal.  It is not recommended in ethernet but people do it anyway.  Doing it on long runs is asking for a problem.
