  1. Your issue is usually caused if you choose to import a directory of songs that you've previously imported. iTunes is not smart enough to identify changes to the directory, instead it ads the entire directory new, which causes duplicates.

Also, if you move the directory of songs, and re-add them to itunes, all of the old entries will break and it's very annoying.

[WARNING: READ ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE ACTING]

The easiest way to fix this is to select your entire library in itunes and choose Delete. This deletes the files in itunes but not from your computer. Make sure you know all folders you've been loading your Music to, and then re-add the directories. If you've downloaded files or podcasts from the itunes store they are located in your iTunes base directory, which can be found by going to Edit: Preferences: Advanced:it will be titled iTunes Music Folder Location.

Re-add all of the directories and things should be fixed. If not then the directories you've added have duplicate songs in them, verify the locations and delete duplicates. Repeat steps above.

  2. just delete the duplicates in the itunes library. This usually happens when a song is moved from one file to another or copied, then the copy is deleted. Just hold the CTRL key on your keyboard and click all the songs you don't want in you library. once the songs are selected just press the delete key on your keyboard. hope this helps.
