Multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia

I was wondering if an individual had multiple personality disorder, is it also possible that one of those personalities has schizophrenia?

  1. No.  Schizophrenia is a pervasive brain disease with chemical, physical and structural changes to the brain.  It does not turn on and off based on mood, personality or train of thought.

That is very interesting.  It isn't possible for one of the personalities to actually have schizophrenia but that personality can convince themselves that they do.  Because the patient already has it that means all the personalities are a part of the same person anyway.  I hope that helps you.

  3. Personally I doubt the existence of multiple personality disorder - if it does exist I think it's extremely rare.  Even the case of Sybil has been called into doubt - one week when her regular psychiatrist was away, another took over and Sybil asked - who do you want me to be today?

    Schizophrenia is a physical illness, albeit in the brain.
