I have always protected my computer with one firewall, one anti virus programme, and several anti spy ware programmes, because I've always believed that more than one anti virus programme on your computer will stop them working properly, but more than one anti spy ware programme wont. But today I was told by a local computer repairman that anti spy ware programmes will conflict with each other, just like anti virus ones, if more than one is installled on a computer, and just like anti virus, you should only have one anti spy ware programme as well. This is news to me, and is the exact opposite of what I've always believed. Does anyone know if it's correct or not. Should I only have one anti spy ware programme on my computer ?

  1. Antivirus - one only, use online scanners as backup:

    Housecall:

    or  BitDefender;

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

    Antispyware - One realtime and two manual:

    Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

    Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

  2. no u can use two antispyware

  3. As far as I know, you can use two Anti-Spyware, but it isn't recommended. They may conflict with each other and most spyware programs will find the same one.

  4. You can use up to 3 anti-spyware programs with no conflicts, your computer guy doesnt know what he's talking about, I use superantispyware free., spyware Doctor Starter Edition., and Spybot Search and destroy, with absolutely no problams, you just cant have two anti-viruses because they will conflict with each other.,

  5. What your local computer repairman must have meant is

    if they were all in REALTIME....and he would be correct.

    So you can have 2...3...4 antispyware programs but only

    one in REALTIME and the others are just used to do a

    scan on demand.Do this and you will have no problem.

    Set any on demand scanner so it does not

    start up with windows........

    Always remember to update these before scan.
