Multiport valve/backwash on pool not working?

Question

I have a DE Filter, 2hp pump. When I turn the MPV to backwash, nothing happens. It's like the whole system freezes up. Pump continues to run, but pressure skyrockets. I've changed the top portion of the MPV (handle/spring assembly). The gasket looks in good shape, but does leak water to waste line in filter mode. Any suggestions?

are you turning valve WHILE pump is running?..this may be your problem...also the gasket/handle/plate may not be aligned properly
