Mumbai A v England XI – England tour of India (Tour Match) – Match Update
Having allowed England players ample time to state their cases for a place in the XI for the upcoming Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, the practice match between Mumbai A and an England XI ended on a draw, today on November 5 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
The match kicked off on November 3, with the England XI winning the toss and opting to bat first. While Nick Compton (1) and Ian Bell (4) were both unremarkable, and swiftly dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 stuck it
out at the crease long enough to contribute 28 runs each, in addition to setting up a 50-run partnership for the second wicket.
Trott eventually fell prey to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 (76), Samit Patel (60), and most prominently
Jonny Bairstow (118), enabled the England XI to get back on track.
The tail, comprising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Onions-c1449 (0) did not offer any surprises, and was polished off by Shardul Thakur (20-4-53-3). At 345 for 9 on day 2, the England XI declared their innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426 (11.4-1-44-3), and Graham Onions (16-2-57-2) were the stars of the England XI’s bowling attack, and the Mumbai A were eventually restricted, all out, to 286.
The innings hinged largely on the contributions of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hiken-Shah-c1550 (92), both of whom joined forces for a 163-run stand for the third wicket. However, the remainder of the batting order was unable to follow up the duo’s efforts with
convincing performances, and the final day of play saw the Mumbai A all out at 286.
Looking to fit in some more batting practice, the England XI took to the field for a second time. Root (24) and Trott (30), both of whom had managed well in the first innings, failed to live up to expectations in the second, and were dismissed lbw, by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imraj-Thakur-c64192
and Yadav respectively.
Nick Compton, however, showed promise as a potential Test opener with an unbeaten 64, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 XI at 149 for 2, the match
was concluded on a draw.
