Mumbai Indians’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 relaxed about his leadership role – Cricket News Update
India’s spinner Harbhajan Singh feels no pressure in leading the injury struck http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians (MI) side in the Champions League Twenty20 Tournament.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise will be without regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s disastrous tour of England.
However, Harbhajan sees this as a challenge, saying, “To be honest, it is great opportunity for me to lead Mumbai Indians. This is a similar scenario to the first IPL when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 was not available, but I am mature now. Obviously, I did not have any experience
before that in leading a side.”
The wily off-spinner further added that he was looking forward to some support from some of the senior guys in the team. He stated, “I will be looking for such support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 and other guys like Malinga. It should be good fun
and I am looking forward to the challenges. It is an added responsibility and I am looking forward to it.”
India had suffered a humiliating defeat in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 recently due to injuries to key players and Harbhajan was also amongst the players who had returned home due to fitness concerns.
The 31-year-old was criticised for his poor form once he returned to the country. However, that did not stop him from continuous hard work, as he regained fitness and confirmed his availability for the Champions League.
MI will play their first game of the tournament against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
The Harbhajan led side will have the advantage of going out with five overseas players in their playing eleven. They have been hit with a lot of injuries and many players have been withdrawn from the Champions League.
However, the rest of the teams taking part in the tournament have objected the decision of the organisers, as they will only be allowed to field four foreign players in their line up.
It will be interesting to see the reaction from the organisers and the MI team on the objection of the remaining teams, but the team will currently be focussing on their first game of the event.
