Ray Price, promising Zimbabwe spinner, has joined the Mumbai Indians’ squad for the 2011 season of the lucrative Indian Premier League.
The 34-year old went unsold at January’s auction for the IPL season four with a reserve price of US$50,000. One realistic reason behind Price being overlooked at the original auction could be his international commitments as Zimbabwe’s
Cricket team was earlier scheduled to visit Bangladesh for a Test and One Day series.
But the outing has now been postponed till August this year, freeing up the left-arm spinner for the money spinning T20 league.
Mumbai Indians have confirmed signing Price for the ongoing T20 League. However, it is not yet known how much the Mumbai based franchise paid for the Zimbabwean.
The left-arm spinner, who picks up wickets with guile and aggression rather than massive spin, is the second Zimbabwean to play in the Indian Premier League. Fellow Zimbabwean, wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tatenda-Taibu-c92882, played for King Khan’s

Price was the most successful http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 bowler in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 with nine wickets from six games at an average of 18.77 maintaining an outstanding economy rate of 3.44 runs per over. His attacking bowling
approach and stellar performance in the mega cricketing event earned him his career best second spot in the ICC’s rankings for One-Day bowlers.
While talking to the media, Price said that he has become mature in his game with time and he is very happy with the way things are going for him at the moment.
"Obviously you learn more as you get older and I think that has been the case with me and I'm very happy with the way things have been going for me at the moment", said Price.
He also said that he is now eying the No. 1 position and hoped to achieve his goals in the busy season ahead.
"When I started playing international cricket, one of my goals was to finish at the top and being ranked No. 2 in the world is nice but my goal now is to move up to No. 1”, said the left-armer.
“The busier season ahead will be a good opportunity for us to do well against the top-ranked teams and we have some time to prepare for that", he added.
Besides his IPL stint with Mumbai Indians, Zimbabwe is scheduled to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Price-c82662 the best opportunity to press his claims.
