Deccan Chargers’ player, Amit Mishra, was pumped up after his side defied all odds and triumphed over a strong Mumbai Indians side on Saturday, May 14, 2011.
The lower-middle order batsman said that the altercation he had with Mumbai pacer Munaf Patel, fired him up and he went all-out against him. Mishra clobbered Patel for four fours in his final over.
The leg-spinner played an integral part in that victory and was declared Player of the Match for his pains.
It was a low scoring game. Deccan held their nerves in the nail bitter to win the match by 10 runs. Though, the victory didn’t do any good for Deccan Chargers as they are already knocked out of tournament, it was an effort worth appreciation.
Mishra contributed some vital runs with the bat in the last over. He smashed 18 runs from six deliveries and his innings helped Chargers reach 135.
Mishra’s knock sparked a new hope in Deccan and later when they came out to bowl, the leg-spinner helped his side by hampering the flow of runs. MI could only smash him for 18 runs from his four overs.
The Player of the Match asserted he has been focusing on his batting and it has paid off.
Mishra said, “I'm trying to work a lot on my batting. It happens in the heat of the moment, but that exchange with Munaf charged with up. I felt if we try to bowl well in the first six overs we could win this.”
Mishra acknowledged the bowling of team mate Pragyan Ojha and concludes he was not expecting the pitch to spin the way it did. He shared that Ojha made full use of turning wicket in his brilliant spell.
Mishra further said that he has been working hard on his fitness as today’s cricket requires players who are fit.
Deccan skipper Kumar Sangakkara was pleased with Mishra’s show. He states that despite his side being knocked out of the tournament, they can still affect the outcome of the league. He also accredited the way his side successfully defended the low total.
Sangakkara said, “It was a 150 wicket and except for Mishy in the last over, getting into Munaf's skin a bit, that was the turning point. We can still influence the table; we need to try to win every game we play. Today, we played a lot of character and
passion, defending a small total.”
Sangakkara was content with the way Jean Paul Duminy bowled during the powerplay. He affirmed that his side will try this tactic in the future as well. Duminy only conceded three runs from two overs and also took the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aiden-Blizzard-c958.
