Mumbai: how to takle a car accident?

What is ideal way to react in the following scenarios?

1. Some rik/tempo/BEST bus, damages your car - how do you get damages from them & react as well?

2. You accidently dash rik/tempo/BEST bus & other person will obviosly charge you lots of money - how to negotiate?

3. You touch or hurt ( not kill) some pedestrian and crowd pounds on you, with nowhere to go - what do you do?

Question 1 and 2...........

For starters, make sure you have car insurance, understand your policy and keep a copy of your insurance card in your glove compartment.

If an accident does happen, try to remain calm. This isn't always easy, but it will benefit you, the other driver, any additional passengers and the police, if it's necessary to call them.

Immediately after the incident, move all cars to the side of the road to inspect any damage. One accident is enough. And you are vulnerable on the road or street. If a car cannot be moved, drivers and passengers should remain in the cars with seatbelts fastened for everyone's safety until help arrives.

Even if the accident doesn't seem serious, you and driver of the other car should exchange information, including name, address, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver license number and license plate number. If there are other witnesses, ask for their contact information, in case they need to help you clarify what happened.

If you have a camera on your cell phone or in your car, use it to photograph and document the accident. Include the overall context of the accident, meaning where it happened, what landmarks were around the accident, etc

File a police report...
