Punjab 580 and 59 v Mumbai 485 and 61 - Match drawn
It was a dull day in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, where most of the Ranji Trophy matches were drawn, giving fans not much to carry with them back home.
The match that was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, saw some outstanding performances from both sides where the contest hung in limbo with neither side losing their hold.
After Punjab had bolstered an amazing score of 580 in their first innings, Mumbai matched them by smashing 485 runs.
However, while the Punjab innings was quick and calculated, Mumbai took their time while posting a formidable score on the board.
They had ended the third day of play with 364 for three and were looking forward to bat the whole day on Tuesday.
However, Punjab drew first blood sooner than anyone had expected when HN Shah was dismissed for 54.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 was then joined by AM Nayar as the two batsmen forged another solid partnership against Punjab.
The bowlers seemed ill prepared against the two batsmen, as they took the score to 427 before, Sharma lost his wicket on a run out after bolstering an amazing score of 203.
With Sharma out of their way, MS Gony and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 wiped-out the remaining batting line as they finished with five and three victims.
Punjab were hoping for an easy time on the wicket, but they were given the shock of their lives when AA Chavan took nine wickets in the innings to restrict them on 59 runs.
K Goel was the only batsman who scored in double figures, as he fell after hammering 25. This despicable batting performance put Punjab in a very awkward position where they now had to defend 155 runs.
Mumbai had a blazing start to their run chase as openers AM Nayar and RG Sharma piled 49 runs, before this partnership was brought to its end on latter's wicket who fell to S Kaul after hitting 28 runs.
They then lost another wicket as they ended the day with 61 runs in six overs.
