Munaf Patel and umpire Brian Jerling 'men of the match' as India win a thrilling encounter
A thrilling finish to the second match of the five-match ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and South Africa saw the visitors level the series at 1-1 with a 1-run victory, in a match that was played at Johannesburg, on Saturday.
The match seemed to be an easy win for the Proteas until the batsmen threw their wickets away in the compulsory batting power-play.
India failed to post a big score after winning the toss and electing to bat first, as their batsmen kept on losing wickets after getting starts. The openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 and Sachin Tendulkar started the innings tentatively but both got out after getting
slow starts.
The first wicket to fall was that of Vijay who scored 16 runs off 32 balls. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424 and Tendulakar scored 22 and 24 respectively but weren’t able to trouble the home team.
The innings was stabilized by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and Yuvraj Singh as both the batsmen took the score to 150 by the 37th over with an 83-run partnership.
Yuvraj was dismissed after a well made 53 and his wicket saw a collapse for the Indians. The lower middle-order struggled against the fast bowlers and gave away their wickets regularly. Meanwhile, Captain Dhoni was out after getting 38 runs and didn’t manage
to capitalize on his start.
The team was bundled-up for 190 runs in the 48th over. The threat for India was yet again Lonwabo Tsotsobe as he took four wickets in the match. Morne Morekel and dale Steyn also took two wickets each to bowl-out India cheaply.
The South African captain Graeme Smith started the innings aggressively and attacked the Indian bowlers. Hashim Amla was out early but Colin Ingram supported his captain with a cameo of 25 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 were 152 for 4 at one stage with 18 overs left in the innings and Smith batting at 77. However, Smith got out and the middle order collapsed just like in the Indian innings.
The home team was all-out for 189 in 43 overs in a nail-biting finish. Bad umpiring didn’t help the Proteas at all, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johan-Botha-c67173 was given out leg-before-wicket, when the ball didn’t even hit his pads. The decision justifies the need of Umpire Decision
review System (URDS) in the game.
Munaf Patel was the main destructor apart from umpire Brian Jerling. Patel took four wickets in the match and was well supported by veteran Zaheer Khan. Both teams will be up-against each-other in the third match of the series on Tuesday, at Cape Town.
