Munro Loses the Super Bantamweight World Title to Nishioka
The renowned Bantamweight boxer from England, Rendall Munroe faced the bad luck when he lost against Toshiaki Nishioka from Japan on the points’ basis. With Munro losing the fight, the WBC super bantamweight challenge eventually ended in failure.
For 30-year-old Munroe, this was only the second defeat where he lost amid the unanimous decision from all three judges scored the fight 119 to 109. The 34-year-old Nishioka from Japan almost outdid the English rival in fifth, seventh and the tenth round.
For Munroe, Nishioka proved too classy to be handled. Out of 44 fights he has had so far, this was 37th win for Nishioka; throughout his career he has lost only 4 fights.
As the fight began, Nishioka gained his rhythm rather quickly and while utilizing his snappy combinations he embarked upon the equally talented English rival. However, the defense from Munroe was solid and commendable that despite of frequent attacks he
managed to have a confident start. In the second and third rounds, the fight landed in complete favour of Japanese champion as he consistently landed clean punches upon the opponent and used his jab as a quick and dangerous weapon. On the contrary Munroe missed
most of the punches he thrown upon Nishioka.
It took three rounds for Munroe to come back into the fight as he upped his work rate in the fourth round, catching his rival with accurate left and hooked him midway through the round. This not only helped him gaining his confidence back in the game, it
also boosted the courage of the spectators who had been supporting him outside the ring.
In the fifth round, the balance of the fight once again went into the favour of Nishioka who completely rocked it with his solid left over the top determined to wobble the challenger. With fierce attacks from Japanese champion and beautiful defense from
the English boxer, the round proved to be an intense onslaught.
Sixth round, again, was no different from the third and fifth rounds when Munroe looked completely troubled with the right jab and left hook combination of Nishioka which had been finding their targets too often, making it impossible for the opponent to
find any escape. During the sixth round, the champion also started working upon the body of the English fighter. During the seventh round, consistent punches upon the body of Munroe almost rocked him down, however just before the bell, a cut above the right
eye of the Japanese boxer gave him the hope to stay in before the bell.
Even before starting with the eighth round, Munroe was falling considerably behind on the points table, though he tried his best to assert himself into the fight but the moves made by the opponent was too cute, powerful and timely. Despite of opening up
a large cut right on his eye, Nishioka continued hammering the spirit of the English boxer with his accurate and bold shots finding their destination on the body of the opponent.
By the ninth round, the fight turned for reversing the rhythm as Nishioka started looking tired and Munroe seemed aggressively taking control over the opponent. Although being on the back foot, the fight depicted by the Japanese boxer was rather commendable.
Despite of having been left with seemingly little energy in his arms he did not allow the opponent to take complete control over the game.
The champion bounced back into the fight in tenth round and the way he hammered Munroe’s body throughout the round, at one stage, it seemed he would close the fight by knocking out the English boxer. However, Munroe succeeded in keeping the nerves until
the bell for the interim respite.
As the fight entered into the latter stages, Munroe’s defense appeared to be more and more weakened; Nishioka’s jab determined to break his guard made it difficult to survive until the end. However, despite of the desperate moments for the Britain side,
the English boxer held on until the final bell of the last round.
