http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Kartik-c78034 eyes an international return – Cricket News Update
The prolific Indian off-spinner, Murali Kartik, is not worried about his age and reckons himself as the second best spinner in the Indian setup after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453.
The 35-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 India in the latest instalment of the Indian Premier League, is one of the most experienced spinners playing in the esteemed Twenty20 tournament.
The left-armer admitted that he is on the wrong side of 30’s but rates himself as the second best spinner in the current Indian setup and is quite optimistic about his chances of getting a recall for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship,
to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September this year.
"I personally believe I have a chance (to play in the 2012 T20 World Cup),” said the left-arm Orthodox spinner speaking to the media reporters ahead of his side’s match against IPL-V minnows, Deccan Chargers.
“I might be on the wrong side of 30s, but I think I am still the second best spinner in the country behind Harbhajan [Singh], probably alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ramesh-Powar-c2278. Somewhere down the line, you live on hope. I think I am bowling well,
and hopefully, things might turn around," he added further.
To date, Kartik has played 8 Tests and 37 One Day Internationals for India and has 24 and 37 scalps in his name in each format respectively. Kartik’s last appearance for the Men in Blue had come in 2007, when he played his solitary
T20 International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
Since then, he has been playing domestic cricket. His Twenty20 record is also impressive where the left-arm spinner has claimed 85 wickets in 113 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 6.65 runs an over, which is quite impressive
in the fastest format of the game.
Despite having opened the bowling for the Pune Warriors India in the ongoing fifth instalment of the lucrative league, Kartik holds a respectable economy rate of 6.50.
"It's [opening the bowling] something I have been doing for quite some time. Not just in [the] IPL but even in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 I have bowled the first over in a 50-over game," Kartik said.
India has been struggling for a star spinner since the retirement of legendry spin bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s spin woes. The BCCI selectors have
tried the spin of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Piyush-c82317 Chawla but all lacked consistency. Last week, Amit Mishra had also vowed to fill the void created by Kumble’s retirement.
