Murali looking forward to play in Big Bash, IPL – Cricket News Update
Despite retiring from international cricket, Sri Lanka’s spin wizard http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864, says that he is looking forward to his maiden Big Bash assignment later in the year, along with his stint in next year’s Indian Premier League.
The 40-year-old bid farewell to his national duties following the team’s defeat in the final of the 2011 World Cup against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. However, he has been an active participant in the game’s shortest format, plying his trade in various lucrative T20 competitions
across the globe.
He took part in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, before representing English County http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 in the Friends Life T20. He then further made his presence felt in the inaugural Sir Lankan Premier League
where he featured for Uthura Rudras.
Despite being at the wrong side of his career, Murali signed up for Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming Big Bash League. It will be the player’s first Australian commitment after he failed to represent Victoria, in 2009, due to his obligations with the national
side. This will further allow the player to renew his rivalry with another spin great, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672, who is expected to join Melbourne Stars.
In addition to his Big Bash assignment, the 40-year-old is further contracted to the Royal Challengers for the sixth edition of the lucrative IPL. The spinner hopes to perform well in the upcoming events and then decide on his future.
"Definitely, IPL is one of the big tournaments in the world, Big Bash as well. I'm playing in the Big Bash, hopefully for the first time and hopefully I will do well in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
"One more year I will play for the Royal Challengers and we will see after (that). See how my form goes," he said.
The player also joked about the possibility of playing with Olympic Champ, Usain Bolt; after rumours surfaced that the sprinter is keen to showcase his abilities on the field of cricket.
"(I would) Love to meet him, he is one of the greatest sportsmen in the world, everyone loves him so hopefully we score so many runs and he chases the ball," Muralitharan laughed.
