Muralitharan likely to assist New Zealand bowlers during Sri Lanka tour – Cricket News Update
In a bid to get back to winning ways, New Zealand Cricket is contemplating over hiring veteran Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan’s services for its spin bowlers during the forthcoming series against the Islanders, at latter’s backyard.
The Black Caps last week snapped up former New Zealand speedster, Shane Bond as their bowling coach, and there are reports that the NZC management is planning to bring in Test cricket’s leading wicket-taker http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864 to assist Bond on the team’s
month long tour of Island nation, commencing on October 30.
The Sri Lanka itinerary will be Shane Bond’s debut in the coaching role along with head coach Mike Hesson and batting coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Michael-Carter-c86086. The former Kiwi quick has had little to do with spin bowlers throughout his 10-year-long cricketing career, and the fact
prompted the head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mike-J-Hesson-c76286 to seek Murali’s help.
“Obviously Muralitharan lives in Sri Lanka in Colombo and he's someone we've got contacts with,” said Hesson, who is keen to get the legendary spinner to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s net sessions.
“We haven't been able to firm things up but we're also looking into the possibility of another specialist coach. We've got some guys lined up but they add to the mix and help Shane in terms of his development - and also the players,” the Kiwi head coach
added further.
Hesson said that the amount of cricket they play in the spin-friendly subcontinent conditions has forced the team management to consider the option of the hiring a specialist spin bowling coach.
“We play half of our cricket in the subcontinent and even now the West Indies' conditions are very sub-continental,” Hesson who took over from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Geoffrey-Wright-c67883 in August this year. “We'll get exposed to a lot of spin, and in this series 70-80 per cent of our
overs we face will be spin-based,” he added further.
The Black Caps, under Ross Taylor’s captaincy are set to leave for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on Thursday, October 25, with the itinerary kick starting next Tuesday, with a one-off T20 International against the hosts at Pallekele. The only T20I will be followed by five One
