Blackburn Rovers striker and former Fulham midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Murphy has revealed that he joined Blackburn in order to get more playing time.
The thirty five year old midfielder was not having the best of times at Fulham this past season, as he slowly saw his playing time at the club get cut down.
Despite having made forty eight appearances for the club, he felt that he was not guaranteed football in the coming season and for this reason, he opted to move away.
The striker is well aware of the fact that Blackburn will be looking to push for promotion back to the Premier League this coming season and they could use someone with a lot of knowledge of playing up front. With Murphy being just that player, he is bound
to start most of the teams games.
The playmaker has gone on to admit that when the team told him that he would be their main man up front, he just couldn’t turn them down.
"First and foremost, in my whole career I've made decisions based on playing football," Murphy said in an interview.
"Steve made it blatantly obvious that he wanted me here to be on the pitch, playing and performing which was a big factor.”
"The conversation I'd had with Fulham was they wanted me to stay but they were maybe looking at bringing someone in to play instead of me rather than competing with me.”
"I didn't want to go down the road of finishing my career sitting, playing the odd game here and there. I'd rather be part of a new challenge and a project and that's what this gave me."
Murphy did admit that he was quite reluctant to go on and make the move initially. However, once he thought about the transfer and the implications that it would have on his career, he went on to go ahead and push for the move.
With him having nothing to prove and nearing his retirement age, it seems like this move to Blackburn was the best possible move that the striker could make.
