Murray Brothers set-up a date with Bryans in the second round – Monte-Carlo Rolex Master 2012
British duo, Andy and Jamie Murray, tumbled over the Italian-German tandem, Santiago Gonzalez and Christopher Kas, in straight sets at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Master 2012 on Tuesday. They penned down a 6-4, 6-3 victory against their opponents to secure a spot
in the second round at this Masters 1000 event held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in Monaco.
The high flying Scottish brothers got the better of Gonzalez and Kas after displaying tremendous co-ordination throughout the match. They upset the 19th ranked team in one hour and seven minutes and stayed on course to bid for their third career
title together.
Andy and Jamie thundered into the Monte Carlo Country Club and drew the first blood in the second game to leap at 3-0 before their rivals could hold on. Regardless of losing their edge in the seventh game, Murrays remained focused in the game and capitalised
on another break chance in the last game, ultimately sealing the opener by winning six games to four.
Ranked 63rd in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Doubles Rankings, Andy and Jamie maintained their intensity in the follow-up set and went on a four-game rampage before losing their serve once. Regardless of losing their
edge in the seventh game, the British brothers cashed in another break chance in the very next game and subsequently pulled out the set with a 6-3 score line.
All in all, the brothers spilled more double faults and clobbered a poor first serve share of 49 per cent as opposed to their opponents’ 56 per cent. However, they amazingly availed 19 out of 24 points on it and fired three aces to prevail. Andy and Jamie
failed to brush off all three breakpoints they faced but converted five out of 10 break opportunities to their advantage.
Next challenge for the British junction is the defending champions and the top seed, Bob and Mike Bryan, in the second round. The American twins got a first round bye after being a seeded player at this clay court event. Andy and Jamie needs to lift their
game in order to upset the world number one doubles team.
