Murray Brothers take down Chvojka/Duclos to reach the second round – Rogers Cup 2011
Unseeded duo of Andy Murray and Jamie Murray won the clash against the Canadian pair of Erik Chvojka and Pierre-Ludovic Duclos in the opening round of Rogers Cup on Wednesday afternoon.
The enthralling contest took place on the hard courts of the Uniprix Stadium in Montreal, Canada, with a high quality display of doubles tennis from the two teams. The Murray Brothers wrapped up victory in three sets, 6-2, 2-6,
10-7, in one hour and twenty three minutes of play to make it into the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series event.
Andy and Jamie were off to a flying start in the opening set and took the better of their Canadian opponents in the initial stages of the game. Chvojka and Duclos made a terrific comeback in the following set to bring the matchup
on even terms, imposing a decisive third set. The Britons held their nerves in the extreme pressure situations in the final set and concluded victory to dispose of the Canadian wildcard duo from the Montreal Masters.
The opening set belonged to the Murray Brothers, who dominated every second of it to push their opponents to their limits. Andy and Jamie collected 10 first serve points and cracked in two consecutive serve breaks to close out
the opener at 6-2. Chvojka and Duclos squandered away eight precious break opportunities in the first set and were forced to trail 0-1 in the contest.
The Canadians rebounded in the following set with forceful impact over the Murray Brothers, launching a series of attacking manoeuvres upon them to reel off 12 out of 18 first serve points in the set. Chvojka and Duclos broke the
Britons in the very first game but dropped their serve to fall back to 2-2 later. The Canadians then upped their gears in the game and nailed two consecutive break points to overwhelm their British opponents, sealing the second set at 6-2 to level the matchup
at 1-1.
The decider also went to the wire, with the two pairs exchanging assertive winners to keep the score board ticking on even terms. Andy and Jamie proved to be the better team round and raced away to 10-7 to close out a convincing
victory in the end.
The Britons will take on the eighth seeded combination of Eric Butorac from the United States and Jean-Julien Rojer of Curacao in the second round for a place in the quarter-finals of Rogers Cup.
