Andy Murray has insisted that he is ready to end his major title drought and give all British fans something to shout about as Wimbledon opens its gates.
There will be a great deal of pressure on Murray, which some are saying will be the main reason that he fails when he comes up against his first world class opponent. However, Murray has brushed this off and insists that he is in good form and the best physical condition of his life.
Murray is likely to ease through his opening few matches of the event but his technique and power has sometimes been called into question when he plays some of the top seeds.
The point is that the three players in front of him in the rankings and seedings have all won Grand Slam tournaments, which means they all have experience in how to deal with that intense pressure during important moments of a huge situation.
Condition
Murray is in the best physical condition of his life and this will mean a number of positive things for his game at this Wimbledon. He will be able to play to a much more intense level during important games, which will be drawn out for more than a standard three sets.
This will mean that he will be just a little bit fresher during games where his opponent may have started well but fades later on because of Murray’s superior fitness. Murray can use his upper body strength to push this advantage home when he sees even the slightest of signs that his opponent has started to weaken.
He’s also packing a little extra punch in terms of his serve. This has been an area of his game that he has worked extensively on and his serve is now much quicker and more accurate than it ever has been. This will get him out of bad situations and often win him a few easy points during matches.
The Pressure
The pressure of being the only Brit likely to win at Wimbledon always comes back round to face Murray. This is not something he is likely to be concerned with because he is now not a stranger to it.
He has been in a couple of major finals where he has been well supported and he does have some experience of playing under really intense pressure. However, many will argue that Murray never raises his game when he plays against Nadal or Federer on the big match stage when it really counts. His two defeats to Federer in Grand Slam finals echoes this.
However, he is a professional sportsman and he will know perfectly how to deal with the media and many different match situations. If he gets knocked out it should be because his game just has not been good enough to shine through as opposed to an example of someone crumbling under the pressure placed upon him.
Betting Advice
Murray will be a very good bet to win Wimbledon but the fact he has never produced on the big stage means a much safer option will be to bet in individual games. This means you can take advantage of the impressive straight sets wins that he is likely to produce during early matches.
Once he plays someone else inside the top ten your best option would be to bet in play. Although this would mean shorter odds, it would allow you to focus on Murray’s game and see how he is dealing with the pressure of playing someone he may be expected to lose to.
