Murray Walker insists that Sebastian Vettel can break Michael Schumacher’s records – Formula 1 news
Murray Walker, who is a famous motorsports commentator, insisted that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel can break the records of Michael Schumacher who recently retired from F1 after an impressive career.
“He is very likely to beat Schumacher's record. It was unthinkable until recently but records are there to be beaten and usually are,” Walker told Britain’s Metro newspaper. “Vettel is a lot further on in his career at 25 than Michael was and he has got
at least another ten, maybe 15 years ahead of him. So if he doesn't beat the record it will mean he hasn't made very good choices about the car he drives. But he is a very astute bloke and I don't think he will make bad choices.”
Walker stated that according to him the last three F1 seasons have surpassed the thrill set by the sport in 1980s. He said that the 1980s were the golden period of F1 but recently the sport has become even more unpredictable. He said that the evidence of
that is clear from the final race in Brazil of this season in which Vettel suffered a first lap collision spinning his car in the wrong track direction but still he finished sixth at the end of the race.
Walker added that many people think that these races are scripted by the F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, so if he did script the recent Brazilian GP then it was brilliant of him.
On the other hand, Vettel himself has stated that he should not be compared to Schumacher as he thinks he is very far off from breaking his records and reaching that level. Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, also said that while Vettel will become
even better, he does not see any driver surpassing Schumacher as he was just remarkable.
Former F1 champion, Niki Lauda, has also told that Vettel will eventually have to change his team and that he can continue his performance with any team.
Vettel has been winning the F1 championship for the last three seasons which makes him the youngest triple champion in history of F1.
