Murray and Federer into fourth round at Roland Garros
Andy Murray has booked his place in the fourth round of the French Open with a four set win over Marcos Baghdatis on day six.
After winning the first two sets of the match 6-2, 6-3 the Scot inexplicably dropped the third to love, before regrouping to win the fourth 6-2.
The victory leaves Murray just one win away from equalling his best performance at Roland Garros, which he produced in 2009 when he reached the quarter-finals.
Earlier in the day, defending champion Roger Federer inflicted a straight sets defeat on world No. 165 Julian Reister, winning their third round match 6-4, 6-0, 6-4.
“With my own form I'm very happy,” the top seed said after the match. “I'm ready to mix up my game playing aggressive. I'm not sure today if I had to face break points. I'm getting very few breaks, and that's obviously always a good thing looking ahead.”
Federer will now face Stanislas Wawrinka in the round of 16, after his Swiss counterpart ended Fabio Fognini’s stay at the French Open just a day after the Italian had defeated 13th seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils in the most dramatic match of the tournament so far.
The 20th seed has won just one match in five encounters against Federer, and was most recently defeated by the 16-time Grand Slam champion in the round of 16 at the Madrid Masters 1000 earlier this month, where Federer ultimately reached the final (which he lost to Rafael Nadal).
