Murray brothers stomp over Ito/Nishikori in quarterfinal – Tokyo Open 2011
British brothers, Andy and Jamie, were too strong for the local wild card enterers, Tatsuma Ito and Kei Nishikori, at the quarter-finals of the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships 2011, an ATP World Tour 500 series event taking
place on the hard courts in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. They registered a 6-3, 6-4 success over the Japanese in front of a pessimistic crowd on Thursday.
The high flying Murray brothers improved their co-ordination to pull out an easy victory over the wild card entrants in sixty-five minutes.
With a win/loss record of 7/5 this season, the British brothers confidently marched at the Ariake Coliseum and bagged in entire serves through blistering forehands and angled shots. In addition to this, the higher ranked team broke
the Japanese team’s serve in the fourth game to win the opening set with a 6-3 score line. They manifested a higher first serve share of 73 percent as compared to their rivals’ 56 percent and earned a tremendous 79 percent win on it. Furthermore, they faced
zero breakpoint and capitalised on one out of four breakpoint opportunities to their advantage.
Ranked 33rd in the ATP World Tour doubles rankings, Andy and Jamie Murray unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off first five games in a row after the Japanese kept their serve in the opening game. Regardless of
losing their serve in the eighth game, they held their follow up serve to clinch the set with a 6-4 win. The high spirited duo clobbered a lower first serve share this time but registered a brilliant 78 percent win on it. In addition to this, Murrays saved
one out of two breakpoints faced and capitalised on two out of five breakpoint chances to their advantage to triumph easily.
Up next for the delighted British tandem of Murray brothers is the Dutch Serbian pair of Robin Haase and Viktor Troicki who stunned second seeds, American Eric Butorac and Curacao Jean-Julien Rojer, in straight sets to reach this
spot.
Dutch number one Haase teamed up with Troicki to crush the seeds, won three titles this season, in straight sets in fifty-five minutes. They fended off two out of three breakpoints came across and converted four out of six breakpoint
opportunities to their advantage to seal the deal with a 6-4, 6-2 score line. The Dutch Serbian tandem clobbered a lower first serve share of 64 percent as compared to their rivals’ 76 percent but earned a superb 81 percent win on it.
