Murray brothers surprise Cermak/Polasek to clinch title win – Tokyo Open 2011
British brothers, Andy and Jamie Murray, crushed fourth seeds, Czech Frantisek Cermak and Slovak Filip Polasek, with a breadstick at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships 2011, a hard court event from the ATP World Tour 500
series taking place in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. After earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory over their rivals, they triumphed their second title together on Sunday.
The high spirited British brothers played their best tennis together to stun the seeds in straight sets in just fifty-eight minutes on their first duel. Regardless of performing double duty, Andy Murray maintained his composure
and with the help of his brother’s amazing tactics, they clinched their second title together.
"It just obviously makes it a bit extra special playing with your brother," said Andy Murray. "It’s the second time we’ve won and he played great. After the tough singles match earlier where there were a lot of long points, I’m
glad he managed to help me out by playing really well because it would have been tough otherwise."
After Cermak and Polasek held their opening serve in the second game, the British duo unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off next five games in a row to earn a breadstick.
They smoothly held their entire serves without facing any breakpoint and cashed in on half of the four breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to register this brilliant 6-1 score line. Murrays also manipulated an amazing first
serve share of 71 percent as compared to their opponents’ 44 percent and earned a superb 80 percent win on it.
Ranked 23rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour doubles rankings, Murrays carried their winning tact in the second set and held their opening serve convincingly to level the scores at 1-1. They then found the
only break of the set in the seventh game and held remaining serves through their blistering performance to pocket the set with a 6-4 win.
They again formulated a better first serve share and earned a mind blowing 89 percent win on it. Furthermore, the British tandem faced zero breakpoint and converted one out of six breakpoint opportunities to his advantage.
"I had good feelings coming into this week," assessed Jamie Murray. "It’s always nice to play with Andy; it’s nice to play with your brother. We played great in all the matches. In the final we probably played our best match and
I feel really happy with the way we played."
This was Jamie's second title in three tournaments. Partnered with Andre Sa, he won the title in Metz at Moselle Open two weeks ago.
