Muscle building question

ok, this was my previous question:

I'm 5'11 161lbs and I'm trying to build muscle (I'm trying to get to 170) not lose weight. My workout plan on a usual day is, get up at 6am swim 800yds, go home eat breakfast, go to work till 4, grab something small to eat, go to the gym for 1-2 hours, and run 3 miles, come home eat dinner and then before I go to bed run another 2 miles. I do this 5 times a week. Approximately, what should my calorie/carb/protein intake be or how can I find out to optimize my performance and build muscle?

My question now is:

All of you said I'm doing too much cardio work. My goal is to join the Navy and become a SEAL and as you can tell from my plan Im workin my *** off to get there. So what should I do? I HAVE to run and swim a ton, but I also need more muscle. Should I alternate weights, running and swimming more? Like do running and swim one day and then do weights the next and alternate that way? Or should I gain the weight I need first and then do the all the cardio and then maintain the 170? I'm open to whatever answers deem fit.

  1. look into creatine, it will build more muscle for you faster, especially with all that exercise

you better be doing pushups pullups and situps too

and drink lots of water (not pool water!)

  2. You need to alternate your workout so you're not doing cardio everyday.  If you're going to work out 5 times a week, do weight lifting on MWF, and cardio on TTH.  On cardio I would run or swim in the morning and then do the opposite one in the afternoon.  You don't want to run right before you go to bed as it keeps your metabolism up and you end up burning more calories while you sleep. Just because you put on more weight doesn't mean its going to be healthy - as the more muscular you get the more you lose your range of motion and ability to do normal things.  Eat before you go to bed instead of working out.

  3. Join the Navy. The drill instructor will tell you what to do.
