Muscular hole in eye ?

my brother got a muscular hole in his right eye due to accidental hit

below the eye. Is operation urgent? How long can I wait for self

heeling? What are the precautions to be followed? What type of

operation is most suitable?

The eye is a delicate organ requiring extreme  care before, during, and after a surgical procedure. An expert ophthalmologist must identify the need for specific procedure and be responsible for conducting the procedure safely.

Macular hole is a specialized area of the retina, responsible for clear detailed vision.At one time there was nothing to be done but now with vitrectomy= this removes the vitreous jell within the center of eye.

In order to close the macular hole completely, addtional pressure must be extended to allow for complete healing.

To do this a large bubble is placed within the eye,when comes into contact with the retina presses it agaist  the wall of the eye,sealing the macular hole. For maximal effect the air bubble must apply upward pressure forcing the macula agaist the retina.

Because the macula is located in the back part of the eyes a patients head Must remain in a face-down orientation allowing the air bubble to exert up ward pressure.

Patients Must maintain this face-down position for approximately 2-3 weeks after surgery in order to achieve succeful closure of the hole and maximize the chances for vision improvement.

This is Critical to remain face-down to close proper, At all times after surgery.

After your weeks of being face-down you will be able to go about normal life. The air bubble however may take from 6-8 weeks  after surgery to completely dissapper this gradually reabsorbed by your body, and the vitreous cavity is filled a liquid that is naturally produced inside the eye.

The procedure is done under local anesthesia and sometimes require a hospital stay( over night), An examination within the 24 hours of surgery is required,Have to have reg examinations for first 3 weeks to see if closeing right and to check for any complications, patient may use several eye drops for weeks after surgery.

Approximately 6-8 weeks after surgery when bubble is completely reabsorbed you may be fitted with glasses. A full recovery of vision may take as long as 3 months.
