Admitting that veteran all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said that his absence provided younger players a chance to play in the series and prove their mettle.
The lowly ranked Bengali Tigers currently lead the five-match ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 and men 2-0, after winning the first two games by seven wickets and 160 runs respectively.
Both of Bangladesh’s victories have come without experienced all-rounder Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990, who has been ruled out of the series due to a shin injury, which he had picked up during the 0-2 Test series whitewash against the same opposition late last month.
In the absence of the Jessore-born left-hander, the hosts handed ODI caps to four players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anamul-Haque-c44160 and Sohag Gazi, with the latter two making match winning contributions in the ODIs played in Khulna last week.
Gazi has picked up seven wickets in two games at an impressive average of 7.14, while Anamul struck a dazzling century (120) in the second one-dayer to help the hosts post their highest total against the Windies in an ODI - 292 for 6.
Rahim conceded that absence of Shakib was a big hole to fill; however, he said that it has opened up opportunities for some young players, adding that it bodes well for the future.
"It would have been a lot better performance with Shakib," said the Bangladesh skipper ahead of the third one-dayer against the Windies at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Wednesday.
"We are fortunate that a cricketer like him is in our team. I hope he comes back to cricket quickly. Due to his absence, the younger players have a chance to play in this series."
"It is a big opportunity for them, if they can play against such strong opponents and do well they will have a lot of confidence. We have guys now who perform so we have more than just Tamim and Shakib to rely upon. It is a good sign, and is a new addition to our strength," concluded Rahim, a veteran of 30 Tests and 110 One day Internationals.
