Mushfiqur Rahim confident of doing well against West Indies – Cricket News Update
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim has insisted that his men will perform well come the first Test against West Indies on Tuesday (today), despite an eleven-month break from the longest format of the game.
"It's a big challenge since we are playing after a long gap. The preparation is good, though can't say it was too good but we’re training together for long and are physically and mentally okay," said Rahim while speaking to media reporters on the eve of the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in December last year, which they lost 2-0. Their last Test appearance was a seven-wicket crushing at the hands of the Men in Green at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka (December 17-21).
On the other side of the coin, their opponents, the Windies, are in the top gear after inflicting a 2-0 whitewash over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month.
Brimming with confidence after the World Cup title, the Caribbean players, especially the bowlers, pose a real threat to the hosts.
However, the home skipper was confident his players have the ability to counter the Windies attack, featuring the likes of mystery off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 and Tino Best.
"All of our batsmen have the ability of playing big innings," said the 24-year-old Bogra wicketkeeper batsman. "We’ve world-class batsmen in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakib-Al-Hasan-c2492 and if they can score some runs and others contribute, we will get a good total," he added further.
This is the third-ever Test bout between West Indies and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 at the latter’s backyard, with the tourists winning the last two, in 2002 and 2011. Rahim, who averages above 29 in 28 Tests, said that winning or drawing was not on their minds going into the series, rather they are aiming for consistency.
"It's not about win or draw, our aim is to play well consistently. We’ll try to maintain a consistency no matter how big the opposition is, we won't look at the result," concluded the Bangladesh skipper.
